The new Dining Hall at the University of Idaho’s McCall Field Campus replaces an undersized 1930s-era log cabin with Idaho’s first Living Building, a regenerative, year-round gathering place designed to meet the evolving needs of a nearly century-old outdoor learning campus.

The all-electric, net-zero dining hall, integrates induction cooking, rain and snow harvesting, and a nearby solar array that powers high-efficiency systems-including radiant heating and cooling via air-to-water heat pumps. Passive strategies lead; active systems support only when needed. 

Nestled among mature Ponderosa pines, the structure floats on piers and cantilevers to protect root zones, while a visible water treatment system makes sustainability legible —a living lab where performance teaches by example.
