About

Colonial II in Rome, NY is the first net zero carbon, affordable, multifamily public housing redevelopment in the state of New York. Colonial II was constructed in 1972 as a school & dormitory; in 1984 it was transformed into residential units designated for vulnerable populations. The building is currently owned and operated by the Rome Housing Authority (RHA).

The Colonial II redevelopment project was awarded $1 million from NYSERDA’s BOE Round 2 Competition as an “Early Design Phase” awardee.

In 2024, the Colonial II redevelopment project was completed- creating 74 new, larger residential units, served by 100% electric systems and fully offset by on-site and off-site solar PV.
